It is our pleasure to introduce you to our sailing trip in Croatia– Via Adriatica- Sailing Dalmatian islands and coast from Dubrovnik. This trip will show you some of the most beautiful Croatian highlights on the Adriatic coast. Fun activities, fine local food, lots of diversity in scenery, and different attractions is what you will experience while here. We have a say here in Croatia ( believe it is universal ) that it doesn’t matter where you are as long as you have good company with you. On this trip, we want to give you both, a good place to be at and good company.

Dalmatia is a well-known region that covers a big part of the Croatian Adriatic coast. Many will say this is the most attractive part of the country for sailing. Beautiful islands, crystal clear sea, local food, good wine, good people, this is all Dalmatia.

FULL ITINERARY

8 Days: Sailing Dalmatian Islands and Coast from Dubrovnik

Day 1: Let the sailing adventure in Croatia begin - arrival day

Welcome to Croatia and Dubrovnik. Today is the first day of your sailing trip around the south Dalmatian coast and islands. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the Dubrovnik airport with your name on the sign, and transferred to your boat location. When you get on board on a sailing catamaran, you will meet your captain and get introduced to your boat and sailing plans. Depending on your arrival time you may have some time to explore the area or sail away this evening if the timing and conditions will suit. Once again, WELCOME!

Day 2: Sailing to Koločep island and Ston on Pelješac peninsula

Today in the morning you will explore one of the Elaphiti islands in Dubrovnik Archipelago-Koločep. Disla Dalmatian island we will sail to is only 2.4 square miles big, with approximately 100 people living on it during the whole year. This little gem of Dalmatian coast has no car on it ,and it is great for walking/hiking on it as it is not busy, while paths are partially shaded.  We do recommend at least a short walk across the narrowest part of the island for great sea views and dramatic cliffs. Sandy beaches in Croatia are rare, and they are mostly pebbly, while Kalamata has two of them. You will anchor at one or more locations for swimming, snorkeling, or sup and visit one or more local sea caves. This is why places like this are special for locals! Local secret: on this island, you will find a great little family-run restaurant that serves the best-grilled calamari you will find in Croatia! After visiting the island you would go to the medieval small town Ston. Ston is one of the very rare 100% planned and built Croatian cities on the Croatian coast, known for -the longest fortified system in Europe, -the oldest active salt plant on the whole Mediterranean, -and for a long tradition of growing oysters and muscles. We suggest hiking the old walls of Ston between big Veliki and Mali Ston. Ston is known for its great culinary scene, and you will finish your day in one of the local restaurants for dinner.

Day 3: Sailing to island and national park Mljet

Your sailing adventure on the Adriatic sea will take you to the greenest Croatian island on the Dalmatian coast called Mljet. The westernmost part of the island is a national park and the first protected maritime area in the Mediterranean since 1960. You will dock with a catamaran to one of the protected bays, in a small village before you start exploring the national park Interesting trivia:  According to legend, Mljet is the place in greek mythology where Calypso captured Ulysses in Greek mythology. Whether true or not, most of the names on the island are of Greek origin, and there is even a Ulysses cave. The national park is known for its lakes inside of the island and a little islet of St.Maria in the biggest lake, with the Benedictine monastery from the 12th century on it. You will visit the islet with a small boat, operated by the National Park and walk around and stop to see one of the best preserved romanesque churches in Croatia.. In 10 Minutes you can walk around the whole islet that's how small it is. The area around the lakes is great to walk or cycle around. The lakes are surrounded by beautiful green pine forests, and there is always the possibility of swimming options in secluded places.  The lakes in National park Mljet are always at least 2 Celsius warmer than the open Adriatic sea.

Day 4: Sailing to Korčula island

Today we continue with exploring Dalmatian islands. Our sails will take us to the island of Korčula. Korčula is one of the most inhabited Croatian islands, known for the town Korčula as well as for the beautiful coastline. You will have time to explore the Old town of Korčula which on the UNESCO waiting list! The name itself derives from the Greek -Korkyra, which gives you an idea that this island was inhabited in B.C. in Greek times when they already then cultivate vineyards.  Korčula today is known for its beauty, hidden beaches, and authentic indigenous local white grapes and wines, Grk and Pošip. The Old Town Korčula is one of the finest examples of Venetian architecture on the Dalmatian coast, and most likely the birthplace of Marko Polo since it is known that the Polo family originates from this place. Small as it is, Korčula town is great for exploring by foot!

Day 5: Sailing to Pelješac peninsula

Today you will leave Korčula island, and sail to the mainland to explore the hidden gems of the Pelješac peninsula. Today's section is one of the most beautiful parts of the Dalmatian coast. It is unknown for the majority and some parts we will still keep as a secret. One of our stops will be a small village called Trstenik. where you can go for a lunch swim or walk around this small place. After Trstenik. or directly if preferred, you will go to Žuljana bay which is named after a small village known locally for many small beaches along the coast from village in both directions. If there is a place on the Adriatic sea to explore by kayaking or stand-up paddleboard this is it. Pelješac is not only known for its coastline but also it is home to the most famous red wine in Croatia, which got its name by the position where is grown - Dingač. This position is unique for its steep slopes, up t 70 degrees, and since 1964 its protected my the Geneva convention for its authenticity. You will boat under Dingač vineyards and have unique views. If you would like to try local Croatian red wines this is the place.

Day 6: Sailing to hidden beaches and Šipan island

Sailing in Adriatic today will take you through the Mljet canal, and along the Pelješac peninsula. You will be having breaks as places and beaches that can be reached only from the seaside. Being away from crowds and civilization, today you will enjoy the Croatian coast at its fullest. Our destination for the night will be another island in the Elafiti Archipelago-Šipan. Šipan is the biggest island in the Dubrovnik archipelago, and it was a farming area for the Dubrovnik nobility which had 42 summer residencies on this little island. There are 2 villages on Šipan, one on each side of the island and it is a peaceful getaway from busy towns. This is one of the rare places where people still fish for a living, and as least touristy of all Elafity island fits into the description of the Mediterranean as it once was! After sailing the Dalmatian coast and islands today you will overnight in Šipan.

Day 7: Sailing to Lopud island and Dubrovnik

Our last day of sailing will take us again to Dubrovnik Archipelago, and one of the Elafiti islands -Lopud. Lopud is also a rare place on the Dalmatian coast with real sandy beaches. Most of the coast is rocky and rugged, so places like this are highly appreciated in Croatia. The Lopud island once functioned as the summer residence for Dubrovnik’s nobility, while also being an important agricultural spot, but nowadays tourism became the focal point of the local economy. There is only one village on Lopud with the same name. Apart from leisure time on the boat, you can hike around the island on a beautiful loop hike from the seaside and above high cliffs to the inland of the island, fortress Španjola and back to the village! Interesting fact: Did you know that the highest palm trees on the whole Mediterranean age growing on this little island? After visiting the island you would go to your base port and have afternoon and evening to explore Dubrovnik. You will be introduced to a rich history of Dubrovnik on a guided tour if preferred, where you will be encouraged to ask any questions you might have about this fascinating place. We suggest walking the city walls, the second biggest in the world. In places, the wall is approximately 75 ft high, which makes it a great sightseeing point to take photos of beautiful scenery. With plenty of restaurants in the Old town area, this will be a great place for your last night in Croatia!

Day 8: End of sailing trip in Croatia and Dalmatian coast and islands

Today is your departure day. Thank you very much for visiting Croatia on this sailing trip, hope you had a nice time while exploring the Dalmatian coast and islands, exploring coves, swimming in secret beaches, and enjoying local Croatian cuisine! Those who are staying extra time in Croatia will be given instructions according to their schedule. If someone would like to stay more in Dubrovnik on their own, we will be happy to help or assist in any way.

    The real deal

    If you are coming to Croatia I heartily recommend Roberto P / Soul of Croatia to make your trip memorable and trouble free. Robi is an excellent organizer and very knowledgeable guide. He designed a cycling trip that gave me and my husband just the right amount of challenge and I finished feeling great. Croatia is so beautiful and he is incredibly generous with true insider info and connections. I will never forget the experiences and memories he made for us - and I have never before laughed so hard on a guided trip. I truly felt like he brought the Soul of Croatia to us.

    Amazing vacation in Croatia

    First time that we've been moved to make a post like this but just returned from a week long cycling trip in Croatia that is easily among the best vacations we have ever taken largely due to the expert organization and guidance provided by Robi of Soul of Croatia. Every day was truly a new adventure highlighted by beautiful rides, exceptional views, gorgeous weather, wonderful local food and people and Robi's commitment to ensuring that we fully enjoyed and appreciated the diversity and rich history that this beautiful country offers. Like everybody else in our group, we cannot wait to make a return trip and highly recommend Robi/Soul of Croatia to any others contemplating a trip to this part of the world.     A Most Amazing Cycling Trip

    Our cycling trip with Roberto was one of the best trips I have ever taken. And this is the second cycling trip I have done with Roberto. I didn’t possibly think he could outdo the excellence of the first trip, but Roberto did. The second trip also exceeded all of my expectations. Our group of eight friends were taken on a private Cycling tour carefully customized to meet all of our needs. Roberto picked daily Cycling adventures which brought us to exquisitely beautiful places in Croatia, and each day was more beautiful than the last. Roberto’s knowledge of Croatia, his connections to the local people, his passion for the history and customs of every place that we visited, could not be replicated by anyone else. Roberto personally took us on a tour of the old city of Dubrovnik, as well as the city of Ston, and he constantly provided us with knowledge of the local areas. Roberto chose restaurants for us, which were excellent and which served traditional delicious Croatian cuisine. Roberto had personal connections to many of the restaurants and wineries we visited which meant we were provided with the highest level of service. Both before, and after our trip, Roberto assisted us with any other excursions and bookings we were interested in. After our trip was complete he personally took us on a boat tour where we swam in amazing caves. It was an exceptional trip, and I cannot recommend Roberto and Soul of Croatia highly enough to anybody who would like to experience Croatia as it should be experienced.
